Chapter Seven:  The Cart Before the Horse!

Patience was never my virtue even though my momma tried to convince me that it was!

Who would have thought, that less than 4 months after waking up with that burning need to define the future, we would begin living it!  Yes – we did it – we bought alpacas.  Before we have pastures, before we have barns, before we have fencing.  We are the proud owners of five lovely ladies who will live at Flying Pony Alpacas until next spring.

These ladies are all bred to Shaquille (a very well known herdsire now owned by FP Alpacas).  Of course we are hoping for grey babies (oops, crias) but there are no guarantees. You can find them on this website – Our Alpacas. And yes, it was part of our business plan, just a little sooner than expected.  By the time we are ready for them there should be TEN alpacas coming home to Sage Hill Farms.

NOW we have to take care of the details.  Clear the land, plant the orchard grass, build the small barn and fence a couple pastures – all before late Spring.  I think I will delegate this to Gary!  I’ll stick to the fun part – the alpacas!  More shows to attend, a Breeder's Choice Auction, a Camelidynamics Seminar and some farm visits looking for a juvenile to show in the Spring.  Our pregnant ladies won’t be doing the show routine anytime soon!

This Story of Us has just begun.  If you are interested, come back from time to time and check us out.  We hope to be busy building the farm, making new friends, and letting our alpacas gaze into our eyes.  My grandson says that “they can see into your soul”!
